What is a Ball Valve?

Full Port Ball Valve
These are ball valves with full ports that cost more than other types. Because the hole in this ball valve is the same size as the pipeline, the bigger ball in this type of ball valve reduces friction loss. They have an unfettered flow despite their bigger valve size.
Standard Port Ball Valve
This type of valve has a smaller port and ball than the full port ball valve. Due to the pipe size, it is less expensive but has a little reduced flow. Despite being less expensive, they have greater pressure dips than other kinds of ball valves. Similar to full port valves, standard port valves are excellent for systems with large flow coefficients.
V-Port Ball Valve
The ball shape in this type of valve is represented by the V as the name suggests. You can better manage the opening and closing with a V ball valve. This type’s flow characteristic is nearly linear. Since these kinds of fluids quickly harm a regular valve, the high velocities of the fluids employed with such ball valves forced the designers to come up with generally more durable construction for them.
Multi-Port Ball Valve
Ball valves with many ports often have three or four ways and a central hole with an L to T form. Any pair of ports can be connected using T valves, and side ports can be connected to the center port using an L valve. A multi-port ball valve’s inlet is typically orthogonal to the outlets’ plane. 4-way ball valves have two X ports, which are L-shaped openings in the ball.
True union (Trunnion)
These types of ball valves have a pin that holds the ball in place and prevents it from moving. A segmented ball can be supported by the valve and the system can reduce friction between various components of the genuine union valve thanks to two shafts at the opposing ends of the ball in the Trunnion.
True union ball valves offer advantages for systems with high velocity since they can withstand greater pressure than a regular ball valve. If necessary, they can also be taken out of the piping system.
3-Way Ball Valve
Due to its variety in arrangement, this type of ball valve is particularly effective for managing gas and fluid flow. It features three ports for gas or liquid passage. Depending on the valve’s flow direction, these ports may have one inlet, two outlets, or one outlet, and two inlets.
Floating Ball Valve
The compression of the two elastomeric seats against the ball in a floating ball valve keeps the ball in place. The ball is free to float within the valve body. The stem turns the ball a quarter turn because it is fastened to a groove on the top of the ball. A certain amount of lateral movement of the ball is permitted by the shaft as a result of the upstream pressure pressing on it.
The valve’s leak tightness is actually improved by the modest lateral movement, which stresses the ball and forces it up against the downstream seat. This valve’s design allows for a bi-directional shut-off. The floating valve is exceedingly challenging to operate when the upstream pressure is high.
Top-Entry Ball Valves
These types of ball valves have a body and a cap, just like a globe valve, however, the trim is constructed of a ball type. Usually, cast metal is utilized to make these ball valves. Further NDE testing would be necessary to ensure that the casting process was error-free because it was made from casting. These valves are typically used in applications where the least amount of disassembly is necessary to replace internal components in-line.
